Famed for its rarity and stunning beauty, contraluz opal is well known to display a stunning multi colour rainbow display when exposed to transmitted light. This is known as contraluz and is only found in the type of opal, hence the name.
Only a very small quantity of this material is mined displaying this rare contraluz colour display. This material is exceedingly rare.
This is a lovely freeform polished piece. As the material is so rare it is seldom cut into cabochons to avoid waste of such fine material.
