A valuable & very desirable type of opal, contraluz opal is well known to display a stunning multi colour rainbow display when exposed to transmitted light. This is known as contraluz and is only found in the type of opal, hence the name.
Only a very small quantity of this material is mined displaying this rare contraluz colour display. This material is exceedingly rare.
This is a lovely freeform polished piece. As the material is so rare it is seldom cut into cabochons to avoid waste of such fine material.
Ideal for setting in jewellery or as an addition to a collection.
